Examiners on strike26-02-2010
DSA driving examiners may strike on Monday 8 and Tuesday 9 March, as part of a civil service wide grievance over compensation for civil servants who are made redundant or opt for early retirement.

Early indications suggest that public support for large payouts to civil servants appears to be about as popular as banker’s bonuses.

The examiners union PCS also intend to impose an overtime ban which will presumably mean no Saturday tests. As there have not actually been any Saturday tests for months this should not affect driver trainers very much.

Electoral Reform Services who conducted the union ballot report that of the 262,632 members send a ballot paper under 82,000 actually voted and of those just under 52,000 voted in favor of the question asked which was: Are you prepared to take part in discontinuous strike action? This equates to less than twenty percent of those entitled to vote actually voting to strike.

The exact number of examiners who are members of the PCS is not known and DSA will request all candidates due for test on strike days to attend for their test as normal.
