B&Q feel the love25-03-2017
B&Q state “Learners welcome on our car parks and will not incur any threat of legal action”

A few days ago, we published details about B&Q refusing to allow learner drivers to be taught on their car parks further to MSA GBs intervention and B&Qs further consideration, they have now released this statement

Learner drivers, as with all customers, are welcome in our car parks. All that we do ask is that if they are practicing manoeuvres that they do so in a way that has no implications for other car park users. This would not incur any threat of legal action.

Within hours of the posting of this story on www.msagb.com B&Q issued the following statement on their social media sites “Learner drivers, as with all customers, are welcome in our car parks. All that we do ask is that if they are practicing manoeuvres that they do so in a way that has no implications for other car park users.”

I a series of telephone and calls and emails MSA GB asked them to remove the threat of legal action mentioned in previous correspondence and they agreed adding the extra sentence This would not incur any threat of legal action.

MSA GB general manager John Lepine said:

"I think this is great result for common sense. We all want new drivers to have experience of using car parks and B&Q have made it clear that they are happy to assist in helping with this."

Common sense also suggests the following guidance is worthwhile for ADIs to follow when teaching on car parks.

  • Utilise car parks when they are quiet
  • Take account of customers using the car park and don’t get in their way
  • if other ADIs are already using the space don’t overcrowd it
  • If it is pay and display then “pay and display” if you are going to be any longer than the allowed “free” period
