Peter Harvey

Peter qualified as an Approved Driving Instructor in the late 1970s and has run his own driving school for over thirty years. During that time, he has devoted his efforts to helping individual driving instructors, working with local road safety groups and promoting high standards for instructors across Scotland and throughout the British Isles as a member and officer of The Motor Schools Association of Great Britain (MSA GB).

On a local level, one of his first contributions was helping to organise road safety film nights with reel to reel projectors being used to run government and other road safety films for instructors and their pupils in venues across Scotland. Peter, ran cycling proficiency schemes in local schools for many years on a voluntary basis and is currently involved with local authorities running pre-driver training in schools in Renfrewshire.

Peter has spoken at meeting all over Great Britain and in Europe addressing groups as diverse as the Budgerigar Society and Members of the Scottish Parliament. Peter also represents the MSA GB nationally at meetings with the DVSA and is one of the regular chairs of the National Associations Strategic Partnership (NASP) and has been called to give evidence on behalf of driver trainers to the House of Commons Transport Select Committee.

He joined the MSA Scotland committee around 1979 and after holding several roles on it became its chairman in the mid-1980s and joined the MSA board of management. In 1989, he became the national deputy chairman and in 1995 the MSA national chairman and has been returned to this post unopposed every year since.

In the Queen's Birthday Honours list 2011 Peter was appointed a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE).

He was a member of the work-related road safety task group and the modernising driver training steering group.

In addition to his work for MSA GB John is also president of the European Driving Schools Association (EFA) which represents the interest of its member countries with all European authorities, institutions and organisations, concerned with: driving instruction. Members are driving school associations which are registered in Europe. John is the official representative of EFA when dealing with authorities and institutions in Europe.
